TIRE FAQ
Motorcycle Tire Questions, Answered
Answers to what we get asked most at the counter — wear, mileage, tube vs. tubeless, and mounting.
How long do motorcycle tires last?
Most street tires last somewhere between 3,000 and 15,000 miles, depending on the compound, your riding style, and how much time is spent leaned over in corners. Sport-compound tires wear fastest and often need replacing well under 5,000 miles, while touring and cruiser tires with harder compounds can go 10,000+ miles.
Mileage isn't the only factor — tires also age out. If a tire is more than 5–6 years old (check the DOT date code molded into the sidewall), the rubber has likely hardened even if there's tread left, and it should be replaced regardless of mileage.
How do I know when it's time to change my tires?
Check the wear indicator bars molded into the tread grooves — once the tread is flush with those bars, the tire is at its legal and safe wear limit. Also watch for sidewall cracking or dry-rot, flat-spotting from hard braking, or a squared-off profile from highway miles.
When in doubt, bring it by and we'll take a look for free before you buy anything.
What's a high-mileage tire?
High-mileage (or "long-life") tires use a harder rubber compound built to stretch tread life, usually at some cost to outright grip compared to sport tires. They're a solid pick for commuters and touring riders racking up highway miles who want fewer tire changes — but not the right call if you're doing aggressive canyon or track riding where maximum grip matters more than longevity.
Tubeless vs. tube-type tires — what's the difference?
Tubeless tires seal directly against the rim and don't need an inner tube, which makes them lighter, easier to plug if you get a slow puncture, and less prone to sudden air loss. Tube-type tires require a separate inner tube and are still common on spoked-wheel bikes that aren't rim-sealed.
Running a tubeless tire on a rim that isn't built for it (or skipping the tube on a tube-type wheel) isn't safe — we'll always match the tire to what your wheel actually requires.
Do you mount and balance tires in-store?
Yes — every tire we sell can be mounted, balanced, and installed same-day at our Garland shop. See our Tire Installation Service page for pricing and what's included, or add installation at checkout if you're picking up in person.
Can I order a tire size that's not listed on the site?
Often, yes. We source through Parts Unlimited and Western Power Sports, which cover a much wider range of sizes than what's listed in the catalog. Use the Request a Product form and tell us the size, brand, and bike it's for, and we'll check availability and follow up with pricing.
